Best Dinner Restaurants in Colonia, Uruguay
Many people just visit Colonia, Uruguay as a ferry day-trip from Buenos Aires, but for those of you that stay overnight there are some great dinner options in town. There is something magical about walking the cobblestone streets of Colonia after the last ferry of the day has left. Here are our top picks for dinner restaurants.
Las Liebres – This recently opened hotel and restaurant just outside of the city of Colonia has a wonderful setting for a relaxed dinner. The food is a mix of traditional Uruguayan and Mediterranean dishes, many using produce from the restaurant’s garden. During warmer months we recommend choosing a table in the garden.
Dos 22 – Just a couple blocks from the historic center, we recently discovered Dos 22 and highly recommend it. The food is delicious (much better than the super touristy options in the historic area), prices are reasonable and the service friendly. The homemade pastas are our pick.
NAPO – This is a spot that only opens at dinner and is a top pick! They specialize in Napolitano style pizza. The space is simple, the menu limited but fresh and quality. Go and get a pizza, salad and dessert and you won’t be disappointed.
Charco – The most high end option in town, Charco is right on the water and has a nice deck overlooking the river. The food is varied, though you can’t go wrong with the grilled locally sourced lamb chops. Reservation recommended.
