Best Cafes in Colonia, Uruguay
After rambling through the cobblestone streets of Colonia and a relaxing lunch with a glass or two of Tannat wine you might be in the mood in the afternoon for a coffee before boarding the ferry back to Buenos Aires. Lucky for you Uruguay has a big cafe culture and there are several nice cafes in Colonia with high quality coffee drinks. Here are some of our favorites:
Ganache Café – Located on a beautiful street in old town Colonia, Ganache is our go-to place for a coffee break in town. The cafe has great coffee, baristas and ambiance. The homemade cakes and sweets are delicious, and if you are a little hungry they have nice sandwiches and lunch specials as well. Open 7 days a week, Real 178.
Colonia Sandwich Coffee Shop – Just a few blocks from the historic center is Colonia Sandwich Coffee Shop, a hole-in-the-wall cafe run by couple Laura and Ezequiel that lived several years in Europe and Australia training and working as baristas. This third-wave coffee shop has expertly prepared coffee as well as tasty sandwiches at reasonable prices. Open 7 days a week, General Flores 272.
Pintoresco Cafe – This simple cafe has good coffee, pastries and a friendly owner. Prices are very reasonable for Colonia. The cafe’s homemade empanadas are also good and ideal for a quick snack. Open Tuesday-Sunday, Ituzaingo 159
