Best Hostels in Colonia, Uruguay
Uruguay is a common destination for younger travelers and backpackers visiting South America and we commonly have clients that purchase ferry tickets from us ask if we have recommendations for hostels in Colonia. We definitely do have our favorites after staying at almost all of the hostels in town! Here is our list of the best (in our opinion!) hostels in Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay.
- El Viajero Hostel – The Colonia branch of this mini-chain of hostels located in Colombia and Uruguay is the largest and probably most social hostel in the city. Located right in the heart of the historic city the hostel is inside a Colonial building updated for the modern traveler. They organize daily activities such as city tours and asados. You’ll be thanking yourself for booking here during the hot summer months since they have powerful air conditioning in all rooms!
- El Viajero Posada – Also part of El Viajero, the Posada is a slightly more upscale offering that has river views and private rooms at still accessible rates for when you want some privacy and the features of a traditional hotel. Another nice feature is that you can still participate in the activities of their sister hostel.
- Hostel Del Rio – This hostel is a friendly modern facility that has both shared bunk and private rooms. While it probably won’t go down as an especially memorable hostel during your South American travels, Del Rio has clean rooms and bathrooms, AC, fast wifi, great showers and cheap rates.
- El Galope Hostel & Horse Farm – This is a wonderful option for outdoorsy people that aren’t in a huge rush. Located just outside Colonia El Galope is in the countryside and offers guests activities like hiking and horse riding in the beautiful Uruguayan Pampas. The hostel has no wifi on purpose so you can really disconnect and enjoy the moment.
